7236, Wildflower Gully, Eastfork Valley
Wind River Mountains in Wyoming
| FREDS NOTES: This picture was taken in the East Fork Valley in the Wind River Range of Wyoming. The East Fork Valley is a relatively unknown part of the Wind Rivers, mostly because there are are no trails there. It is bounded on the West by some of the largest granite faces in the Rocky Mountains; most of these faces are unbroken sweeps of granite 2000 feet and more high. On the east side of the valley the massive peaks of the continental divide tower over the valley; some of these peaks, like Mt Hooker are thousands of feet of vertical granite faces that are miles long. In between these two ranges is the beautiful wildflower filled North Fork Valley. At the bottom of the valley the crystal clear East Fork River forms a gorgeous chain of lakes and finally meanders on its way to join the Green river. This picture was taken in the upper, northern end of the valley in August of 2008 on a ten day backpack through the southern Wind River mountains. |
