The Best Way to Frame Our Pictures

We no longer frame or laminate any of our pictures. However we have a bunch of good ideas for how to frame pictures, from doing it yourself to having the whole job done at Reed Photo in Denver, to having your local framer do the job. To see our complete description of ways to frame our pictures, go to Our Framing Page.

Our best recommendation is that you have us ship your picture to Reed Photo in Denver and have them frame it as a Gallery Mount. This is a beautiful presentation at a better than great price. This solution may work even if you live half way across the country. Reeds will give you a 25% off framing discount and they also have great shipping prices. Below is a more complete description of the Reed Photo Gallery Mount option.

Reed Photo in Denver, Colorado frames photographs using a process they call Gallery Mounting. When the pictures are finished they are called Gallery Mounts. The picture below is one of their Gallery Mounts. They have several types of these Gallery Mounts besides the one shown. Another is shown at the bottom of this page. Since Reeds are pretty efficient people, Reed Photo Gallery Mounts are one of the nicest and least expensive ways to frame our pictures that you can find anywhere. This may be true even if you have the finished pictures shipped halfway across the country.

Reed's Gallery Mounting is a proccess where a photograph is mounted and laminated to a heavy ABS board using an acid free archival adhesive. The photograph is then finished with several styles of very professional looking edges. A traditional frame is not used around the edges. Glass is not used as the picture is completely protected by the lamination. A special hanging device called a Frenh Cleat is attached to the back of the picture for hanging.

The Gallery Mount process works best for pictures 16x20 and larger since these pictures are hard to frame by yourself and often cost an arm and leg when framed using traditional mat, glass and frame by a professional framer.

As I said, Gallery Mount Framing at Reeds is quite inexpensive. In addition, they have an in-house crate maker which keeps costs down and since they do so much shipping, they get wholesale rates from Fedex. And then there is the fact that Reeds gives all of our customers a 25% discount on their framing.

For all of these reasons, it may well pay you to have Reeds do the whole job and ship the picture to you, even if you live quite a distance from Denver. You may be pleasently surprised to find that the total job costs are often about the same, or maybe a little bit more, or maybe even a little less, than hassling around finding a local framer to do the job. Eliminating the hassle may be worth more than paying shipping.

The best way to find out the exact cost of Reeds Gallery Mount plus shipping, is to call Kelly Reed. And you do need to talk to Kelly, not one of Reed's regular sales reps to get the 25% framing discount that Reed gives to all of our customers. Phone Kelly at 303-573-8084 extension 323 or email her at kellyr@reedphoto.com. Kelly is a busy lady, so sometimes the email route works a little better. Reeds 800 number is 800-999-8084.

To the left is another type of Reed Gallery Mount called the Gallery Float Style. The picture floats 3/4 of an inch above the wall. It is a very contemporary look that I like a lot.

Another type of Gallery Mount is the Gallery Flat. Here the picture is mounted on a thinner, 1/4 inch board. This gallery flat is the least expensive, yet still very beautiful, way to frame one of our pictures that I know of.

Gallery flats work best for smaller pictures like 8x10 up to 20x30. For very large pictures like 33x50 I would use one of their other options where the picture is mounted to a thicker board.

If you are interested in having one of our pictures framed as a Gallery Mount, you should have us ship your picture directly to Reed Photo in Denver. If you order online, leave me a note to ship your picture to Reeds in the "Additional Information" box near the end of the online shipping proceedure.

If you would rather not order online, you can call us at 505-404-8299 to order and to have us ship the picture to Reed Photo. There is no charge for shipping the picture to Reeds.

You pay us for the picture and pay Reeds for the framing and the shipping.

Keep in mind that if you live in the Denver area you can pick up your finished Gallery Mount at Reeds which is located at 888 Federal Blvd in Denver, and save on both the crating and shipping charges. If you can do this, the Reed Photo Gallery Mount is pretty surely the best framing deal for you. Be sure to let Kelly know that you are going to pick up your picture.

We get no kickback from Reeds for recommending them as framers. We offer Reeds as a framing service so that our customers have access to one of the best framing deals around. The happier our customers are with our pictures, the more pictures we sell. Referring you to Reeds is simply good business.
